Welcome

Welcome to our community!
Junaluska Highlands is a gated community of upscale homes located in the Appalachian Mountains of Western North Carolina. If you like mountain living, you'll love our community! We're located in a cozy valley bowl surrounded on  three sides by mountain ridges. Distant mountains can be seen to the South, past barely visible church steeples in Waynesville.

Our community has wide paved roads to all homes and sites and enjoys a covered community pavilion where residents enjoy picnics, pond fishing, and outdoor cooking. There are 56 home sites within the community with 32 homes built and 2 under construction as of April 2019. Numerous events are held throughout the year for fun and fellowship. Events include the annual Spring Work Day, a 4th of July Community Celebration, monthly book club meetings and other social gatherings.

Mountain living is enhanced by the temperate climate of the area. Winter sees an average January temperature of 38F, generally with a few light snows. The community has a local company that clears and treats the roads during inclement weather events which are generally brief and not a serious inconvenience. With elevations ranging between 2700 and 3500 feet, summer temperatures are usually pleasant and typically 10 degrees cooler than the Piedmont region. The average June temperature is 71 F.

Our Junaluska name is derived from an early leader of an Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, many of whom still reside in the area. Nearby Lake Junaluska and the Lake Junaluska Assembly also derive their names from the same Indian leader and offer conference centers, lodging, fishing, boating and golf.

Other local attractions include the Great Smoky Mountains National Park which is about 45 minutes away and the beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway - with two entrances only minutes away. One entrance is only 15 minutes away off the Great Smoky Mountains Expressway. A second entrance is a bit farther on the west end of Maggie Valley and the entrances near Asheville are also reasonably close. All offer hours of scenic enjoyment!
